前置詞（場所・時）
前置詞 ＋ 名詞 ＝「どこで」「いつ」を表す（in the box、on Monday、at seven）
1前置詞とは
前置詞は、名詞や代名詞の前に置いて、場所や時などを表す語です。in the box（箱の中に）、on Monday（月曜日に）のように、「前置詞＋名詞」のまとまりで使います。
My cat is in the box.
私のねこは箱の中にいます。
I get up at six.
私は6時に起きます。
前置詞のあとに代名詞を置くときは、me、him、her、us、them のような「〜を・〜に」の形（目的格）を使います。
Come with me.
私といっしょに来て。
This letter is for her.
この手紙は彼女あてです。
2場所の in / on / at
in は「〜の中に」、on は「〜の上に（くっついて）」、at は「〜という地点で」というイメージです。on は上だけでなく、かべや天井にくっついている場合にも使います。

国や都市のように広い場所には in、駅やバス停のように「待ち合わせの地点」として考える場所には at を使うことが多いです。
3under / near / by / with
場所や様子を表す前置詞は、ほかにもたくさんあります。by は「そばに」のほかに、by bus（バスで）のように乗り物などの手段も表します。with は「〜といっしょに」「〜を使って」の意味です。

ペンで名前を書いてください。
「バスで」「電車で」のように手段を表す by のあとには、a や the をつけません（× by a bus）。「歩いて」は on foot と言います。
4時の in / on / at
時を表すときも、in・on・at を使い分けます。at は時刻のような「点」、on は曜日や日付のような「1日」、in は月・季節・年のような「長い期間」と覚えましょう。

「朝に」は in the morning ですが、「日曜日の朝に」のように特定の日の朝なら on Sunday morning と on を使います。また、every、this、next の前には前置詞を置きません（○ every Sunday × on every Sunday）。
5前置詞を使う決まった言い方
動詞と前置詞が組になった言い方も、まとめて覚えておくと便利です。
- look at 〜（〜を見る）
- listen to 〜（〜を聞く）
- get up（起きる）
- go to bed（寝る）
- at home（家で）
- on foot（歩いて）
Look at that bird on the roof.
屋根の上のあの鳥を見て。
I listen to music in my room.
私は自分の部屋で音楽を聞きます。

6ニュースの中の前置詞
ニュースでは、いつ・どこで出来事があるのかを伝えるために、前置詞がよく使われます。日付や時刻、場所をしっかり聞き取りましょう。
The festival starts on Saturday.
祭りは土曜日に始まります。
The new library opens in April.
新しい図書館は4月に開館します。
Heavy rain is falling in the north.
北部では強い雨が降っています。
The press conference begins at three in the afternoon.
記者会見は午後3時に始まります。
